Josie had oral surgery today to remove all four of her wisdom teeth. She went to Dr. Miller at Central Oklahoma Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. They were so friendly and professional, making it as comfortable for Josie (and me!) as possible. We got there at 9:00 this morning, they had her in the chair by 9:15, and we were out the door by 10:20. Unbelievable!
After Josie had been in recovery for ten or fifteen minutes, they let me see her. Beforehand, Josie insisted that I take video when she got out, thinking it would be funny, so I walked in while taking video with my phone. Let me tell you, it wasn't long before I shut the thing off. Josie couldn't speak at all. She was just staring off into space and could barely hold her head up. It was extremely unsettling and not at all funny. I just wanted to wrap my arms around her and comfort her because she looked scared and confused. I REALLY didn't like it.
But, after a lot of help and slow moving, she was in the car and we were on our way. Within a few minutes, the life was back in her eyes and Josie was back in the world of the mentally conscious. We picked up her prescriptions at Walgreens and grabbed some KFC mashed potatoes for her to eat before taking her pain pills. Doctor's orders! Seriously Josie resorted to texting me rather than trying to speak. The first one said, "This is weird."

That last text is about the gauze and how she couldn't tell if she'd gotten it all because her mouth was so numb!
After we got home, got the icky gauze out of her mouth, and Josie re-gained her speech capabilities, she told me that once they had her IV going, she was told they were going to give her something that would "make her feel much more relaxed and happier about being there". She further explained that, about twenty seconds later, she was smiling and laughing. They gave her Versed, that miracle drug that prevents us from running out of pre-op screaming.
Josie slept most of the day, waking up to sip water and Sprite Zero, take pain pills, and go to the bathroom. She's been using bags of frozen corn to ice each side of her face and she has eaten mashed potatoes and yogurt so far. Josie's's such a tough girl and has such a terrific attitude. She's just chillin' on the couch trying not to talk too much. And she says the numbness is almost completely gone.
The doc said he wants Josie out of school and resting for three days, so I took off to be with her and take care of her. Glad it's over, Josie! I hope the next few days go smoothly!
