Here is the link to a Talk of the Nation segment about napping at work. There's quite a bit of evidence that our bodies work better when given the opportunity to rest/nap in the afternoon; however, would any of us really feel comfortable w/our boss walking in on us while napping? Or, if you are the boss, would you feel an employee was slacking if you caught him/her napping on the job? Maybe catnaps (i.e. 30 min or less) in the afternoon should become more engrained into our overworked American culture...I actually think this might improve productivity in the workplace...

I would fully endorse the naptime allowance of 30 mins or less - however, the American workplace is so entrenched in being politically correct they would have to come up with operating and administrative procedures. Could you imagine an Administrative Procedure on napping?
Employee may nap in prone position in enclosed napping room with no more then one person napping at any one time. No two party napping will be allowed, snoring is not allowed and will be reprimanded upon breaking certain decibal limits... and so on.... People are so concerned that someone else might have it better that they waste precious minutes thinking of ways to make everybody the same - how sad. Ang Re: Re: Naptime

Totally! I actually worked at a refinery that had a written SOP for napping on the job! Since most of the employees worked twelve hour shifts, many of them overnight, they had to establish rules for sleeping. Workers were allowed to sleep at work as long as 1) They did not neglect or delay any job duties and 2) They didn't actually make a pallet or bed to sleep in/on. Isn't that crazy?!
